New GFS Black Stars line up
GFS Black Stars’ preparation towards next year’s major tournaments, (Inner City World and African Nations – UK) kicked off to a good start with a positive call up of strong young players selected from all the teams participating in the GFS league.
These players included 5 top players from Park View, namely Tanko (Goalkeeper), Joseph Kissi (Central Defence), Kofi Oti-Atakora (Central Midfield), David Frimpong (Left Wing) and Francis Williams (Striker). Their selection was no surprise due to their performance over the just ended season.
They had their first training session on the 22nd October, and played their first friendly match a week later on the 29th at home (Hackney Downs Park) against South Africa–UK, beating the ‘Bafana Bafana’ boys by 5 goals to 2 with David Frimpong (Nana Kofi) scoring 2 of the goals.
The second friendly took place away at Loxford Park, Ilford on the 26th November against Gambia-UK, also winning by 3 goals to 2, once again with David Frimpong (Nana Kofi) scoring the first goal.
In both games Tanko was outstanding with some serious one on one saves. Big Joe was a commanding force in the defence as ever, winning every aerial contest. Kofi Oti-Atakora also showed why he is ‘captain marvellous’ at Park View by working assiduously to win every single 50-50 ball in the midfield. Francis Williams on the other hand, had to pull out of both games with a niggling ankle injury.
Overall it was a brilliant performance by the boys and hopefully with a few more friendlies lined up, the lads should be well prepared for all major tours next year.
The line up in the above picture includes from left to right the following:
