The GFS 2005 league season ended almost controversially when Park View FC were crowned GFS Premiership Champions, after Deptford Park were suspended by the FA and points awarded to Park View when Republicans refused to honour their game after an FA enquiry. The season ended with all teams in contention acknowledging some big battles ahead when the new season begins.
True Champions
Park View’s pre-season training started a month earlier on the 15th of January 2006 with their usual strict discipline and hard work. Each and every member of the squad both old and new had only one objective in mind, which was simply to confirm themselves as true champions by the end of the season.
The season kicked off slowly in March with a 2-2 away draw against Kennington FC, then continued with an emphatic 3-0 home win over Soccer Stars, all along with the big battle a fortnight later in mind.
The cold greyish afternoon in North-London presented the local derby both fans had been waiting for. Deemed, the Battle of Tottenham, Park View versus Republicans had everything you could wish for, passion, aggression, skills, cautions and goals. It was a big 90 minutes brawl, which ended 3-1 to Park View, after the dust had settled, and the storm was calm.
They went on to beat Hackney FC in a highly tactical away game by 3 goals to nothing, then had a super showdown return game against Republicans which ended in a 2-2 draw with Park View playing with 10 men (after a player sent off) for a greater part of the first half and the rest of the game.
A bright sunny afternoon in August presented a goal fest, which saw Park View trash Kennington 5 goals to 1. That victory over Kennington almost sowed a seed of complacency, which resulted in a 2-1 loss to Soccer Stars on a return away match in Wembley.
With Park View’s chances of the championship slipping, if they should loose the last game, the entire management them had a two hour long meeting with the squad emphasising on the moral, spiritual and psychological importance of securing the last three points in the bag. Lo and behold they responded with arguably their best performance of the season winning 3-0 against Hackney at home.
The GFS Chairman Mr Peter Nuamah, when presenting the trophy after the game, said he thought Park View’s success last season was a fluke, but they’d prove him wrong by winning the premiership again and attributed their success to hard work and discipline. Well-done Park View!!!
