Black Starlets and Park View FC young striker Julian Owusu-Bekoe received the ‘Young Player of the Year Award’ at the Park View End-of-Season Awards party. The 17 year old was awarded the trophy for his superb contribution to the senior side and for his call up to the Ghana National Under 17 Side (Black Starlets).
Reports from the GFA website (www.gfahome.com) stated “Both the management and technical team of the national Under-17 soccer side, the Black Starlets, seem to be relief so far as goal scoring is concerned after the emergence of sensational young striker Julian Owusu-Bekoe”.
The well-built striker, who joined the Black Starlets from Park View FC in the middle of October, has so far scored two goals in two games for the Black Starlets during their friendly with Division One side Fairpoint F.C and Mighty Jets. Though he was not available for the side’s double qualifiers with their Guinean counterparts, there are clear indications that the shy-looking striker has gained a first team place against Ivory Coast on November 26th in Abidjan for another qualifier.
Starlets, who failed to go beyond the group stage of last year’s World Championship in Peru, has this year had about three foreign based players joining the team, an issue which seems to ease the work of the technical staff. The Black Starlets, who will be embarking on a seven-day training tour in Egypt, have played about thirty games including four international matches.
