The GFS-Black Stars world cup campaign took a rather miserable turn when they were knocked out of the competition in a Penalty shoot out against Bulgaria in the second round.
The campaign started off very well with Ghana winning all their first round games against Afghanistan (2-1), New Zealand (3-1) and Spain (4-0).
The Second day presented the opportunity for Ghana to progress to the Quarter Finals if they get pass Bulgaria who were runners up in their group. The Bulgarians played a very defensive game with the occasional counter attack. 30 minutes into the first half, a brawl between Lord Lomotey (Kennington FC) and a Bulgarian player saw him sent off, leaving the rest of his team mates to battle out the rest of the first half.
A few important substitutions were made in the second half but made no major impact, ending the full time in a goalless draw. In the penalty shoot outs Ghana managed to put away the first, missed the second, scored the third and fourth. Bulgaria on the other hand scored the first three and missed the fourth leaving both teams with a take each. Ghana took theirs and missed by a mile but the Bulgarian put theirs away beautifully to secure a place in the Quarter Finals leaving the GFS Black Stars packing off with a lot to reflect on.
